Busy Week

I have a busy week coming up with the various ministries of the Church starting back up! What should I do?
Luther: "“I have so much business I cannot get on without spending three hours daily in prayer."

I would love to say that was my habit, but it is not (yet). However, the point is the same: No matter how long we spend in prayer, in order to get through the "busyness" we must first and foremost be people of prayer.

What kinds of things are you doing to insure a consistent prayer life?

Question:
"What kinds of things are you doing to insure a consistent prayer life?"

Response:
"I: Quite less than 'in all things'. By the Holy Spirit: 'praying at all times.'"

Having served as a soldier in the military, I know that I am only as capable on the battlefield as I have been trained, and only as protected as my leader provides.

My most memorable training exercise was sitting (concealed) on a ridgeline with my fellow soldier, Joe Davis, waiting overnight for a troop (24) of "enemy" vehicles to possibly arrive within sight of our location. As the morning sun rose, in came the enemy while Joe and I made one call on our radio to send simulated artillery on their location. Had we departed from that location, we might have been discovered. Had we failed to use the radio correctly, the call might have been misunderstood. As it was, one call "saved" our fellow soldiers from a huge assault.

There is an even better joy in Ephesians 6:18: "...praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints...."

After having just clothed the Christian "soldier" in the armor of God (in the preceding verses), this verse asks the Christian soldier to fulfill his/her role to be alert on the ridgeline and use your radio to call on a power infinitely stronger than your own to protect your brethren from the enemy.

This is the call that drives me to pray with the Church on Thursday nights. This is the call that drives me to pray for my family and my co-workers. And from this comes praise and thanksgiving to God through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

I also rely on Romans 8:26-27 (intercession of the Holy Spirit), especially when in situations like Mark 14:38 ("sleeping" instead of praying) - which I confess is often.

Not sure if I answered the question, but "consistent" & "always" are beyond the "things" we do. They demand to be ingrained into the full breadth of our lives.

"Sanctify us by the Truth, Lord. Your Word is Truth."
