I have to say that I support very little of what my union does. I am required to belong, have dues taken from my check, but don't have a true voice at all. I belong mostly to protect myself from litigation. The NEA is extrememly left-wing, and takes on many causes it shouldn't, claiming that they are human rights issues affecting children. It is extremely frustrating. I have given up reading the monthly magazine they send, as it usually just makes me angry. I really think the NEA does a lot to give teachers a bad image.
I just read Exodus 32 a few minutes before visiting the blog tonight.
Surely not all of Israel gathered around Aaron to complain for the creation of false gods, but their stir was sufficient.
And, like the Israelites with the golden calf, we still see the worship of false gods only to "rise to indulge in revelry".
1 John 4:4-6
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them.
