What a bittersweet cartoon!
"The whole church watched with nervous anticipation as the visitors sat where the Martins have sat for 42 years."
At first glance the image seems to suggest that we relate to the Martins, though at some point we have each been the visitor. Then on second read, the relationship seems to be in the nervous anticipation - that tension in wondering how we are to individually react to this situation.
Options seem to be presented: introduce the Martins to the visitors or perhaps offer for the Martins to sit next to me.
But wallowed in my pride I concede that I might also sit quietly "in nervous anticipation."
Thank God for his gift of the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ, our Lord!
