In case you ever wonder if weird fundamentalists still exist, this is an ad from Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, North Carolina. From Veith (not endorsing it!):

We will also be burning Satan’s music such as country , rap , rock , pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel , contempory Christian , jazz, soul, oldies but goldies, etc.

We will also be burning Satan’s popular books written by heretics like Westcott & Hort , Bruce Metzger, Billy Graham , Rick Warren , Bill Hybels , John McArthur, James Dobson, Charles Swindoll , John Piper, Chuck Colson, Tony Evans, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swagart, Mark Driskol, Franklin Graham , Bill Bright, Tim Lahaye, Paula White, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn , Joyce Myers, Brian McLaren, Robert Schuller, Mother Teresa , The Pope , Rob Bell, Erwin McManus, Donald Miller, Shane Claiborne, Brennan Manning, William Young, etc.

We are not burning Bibles written in other languages that are based on the TR. We are not burning the Wycliffe, Tyndale, Geneva or other translations that are based on the TR.

This may be unnecessary, but just to be sure . . . Gene Edward Veith (Cranach blog) is not affiliated with Amazing Grace Baptist Church, nor does he endorse this activity.

While I certainly wouldn't mind ridding the world of the writings of some of the authors listed above, hosting a book burning party is insane. Not only is this an even creepier "alternative" to traditional trick-or-treating, it just doesn't convey the "amazing grace" of our God.

AGBC website states:
God said in Psalms 12:6-7 "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever."
One does not need to know Greek or Hebrew to understand God's Word. God has promised to preserve them, not man. If the preservation of God's Word was left up to man than we would mess it up. That's what we have with modern versions. But divine preservation is God's promise to give us his pure words and we have that in the KJV. God's Word is not lost or hidden somewhere. We have them today for the English Speaking people and that is through the KJV."

My comment:
While I agree to some degree that the meaning in some translations is white-washed, the power of the word is that in it Christ our Lord is evident - graciously saving sinners from destruction and redeeming them into our Father's eternal kingdom.
